Registered dietitians have different qualifications than nutritionists. Registered dietitians must complete a four year college degree, complete a supervised practice, and successfully pass a national registration exam. Registered dietitians can help treat clinical conditions, diagnose eating disorders, and plan meals for patient health needs, whereas nutritionists primarily focus on food behavior.
A registered dietitian will use lab values (provided by you) specific to your medical condition (i.e. cholesterol, blood sugar and hemoglobin A1c levels, and electrolytes) and behaviors to identify changes that can promote better health. They will provide a customized plan based on mutual health goals and may request follow up labs, as needed, to assess progress and additional changes.
SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. A SMART goal focuses on small, doable habits & actions that you can do over time, in order to improve or maintain your health. Your dietician will work with you to help you set a SMART goal along with providing diet and nutrition recommendations.
